Monster Energy Kawasaki's Jamie
Hacking came from behind to earn the final podium spot during
the AMA Superbike race at Road Atlanta. Attack Kawasaki's Ben
Attard finished second in the AMA Formula Xtreme class, earning
his third podium finish of the year.
After a red flag following the initial start, Hacking got a good
jump to settle into the sixth-position. With only a few laps
left, Hacking pushed his Kawasaki ZX-10R up the leader board
to come across the finish in third.
"My starts are really coming around," said Hacking.
"I ended up coming together with Tommy (Hayden) and it took
me awhile to gain my composure. I was fortunate because the rider
in front of me ran into some traffic and I was able to make some
time. I set him up on the back straight away and my Monster Energy
Kawasaki was definitely faster than him. I made a clean pass
and pulled away.
He added, "I actually didn't know I had made the pass for
third. I thought it was for fourth place. I hope it shows how
hard I ride for each position."
Teammate Roger Hayden was forced to pit before the red flag for
a new rear tire. When he lined up for the restart he was 20th
and got a great jump to make it all the way up to 10th. He continued
to work his way up to a respectable sixth-place finish.
"The red flag definitely helped me since we had the tire
problem during the first part of the race," said Hayden.
"I was happy with the restart and ended up following sixth-place
for a long time. I tried to get close enough to make a pass but
never had the opportunity."
In the Formula Xtreme race, Attack Kawasaki's Ben Attard continued
to be a competitive front-runner aboard his Kawasaki ZX-6R. The
race also saw a red flag early in the race, but Attard kept his
momentum going and battled for a well-earned second-place finish.
"After the red flag, I got a good start. I thought I would
hang behind 1st place to see what he had, but I was passed and
wasn't expecting it. I stayed close, put in some really good
lap times, and was able to make the pass. The bike was running
great and the tires held on really well."
Teammate Steve Rapp got a fifth-place start after the red flag
and eventually made a clean pass for fourth where he would finish
the day.
"I didn't really get a good restart, which cost me,"
said Rapp. "I got behind some people that slowed me down.
I started making up some time and was able to pass the rider
in front of me when he made a mistake. My bike was great and
the tires were the best I've had all year. I'm looking forward
to tomorrow."
The AMA Supersport and second AMA Superbike races are set for
Sunday afternoon at Road Atlanta.
