The ISILON MSS Discovery Kawasaki
team took fifth place in today's MAXXIS British Supersport race
at Croft, in North Yorkshire. The result matches the best so
far this year for Stuart Easton, and with new parts coming in
time for the next round at Cadwell Park, great things are expected
from both bike and rider for the final three races of the season.
In the Superbike class, Easton's team-mate Michael Rutter made
some big improvements to the performance of his Kawasaki Ninja
ZX-10R in between today's two Bennetts British Superbike races.
The changes saw the 34-year-old from Kirkby Mallory knock the
best part of a second off his first race best lap time and take
ten seconds from his overall race time. It's hoped that these
improvements will continue at Cadwell Park in two weeks time.
Michael Rutter, Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10R (13th and 8th)
"We were disappointed after the first race, but we made
some changes and for the second race the times were much more
encouraging, which gives us hope for the last three races of
the season. For the second race we changed the throttle bodies,
which helped give us a bit more bottom-end power, which I was
looking for. With all the parts we've had for this race, it would
be great to be able to go test them, but we obviously don't have
unlimited funds or engine life, so that's the way it is! I'm
hoping we've now turned a corner and can pick some good results
up from Cadwell and build on that for the last two rounds."
Stuart Easton, Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R (5th)
"If only I could have got past Ian Hutchinson! It was
a tough race as I had to be inch-perfect everywhere. I made a
mistake and then it took three laps to get back up to where I
was behind Ian. There were a few places where I was a little
weak into Tower and into the first corner but all-in-all
I had a pretty decent race. I know fifth isn't anything to be
ecstatic about, but this gives us a basis to really push in the
last three races of the season. Chassis-wise the bike now feels
great, so we're hoping that the engine management system and
other tweaks will give us the drive off the corners we need to
get that podium."
Jack Valentine, Race Team Manager
"It's fair to say that we were pretty disappointed with
our times in the first Superbike race. We had a talk about the
problems Michael was having with the bike and made some adjustments,
which obviously worked as we were closer to the leaders in race
two. Overall, we were quite positive after that second outing.
Of course, in an ideal world I'd love to be testing here tomorrow
as back-to-back tests help so much when you've brought in so
many new chassis and engine parts. In Supersport, Stuart rode
a fantastic race, with a little more punch out of the corners
we perhaps could have had more. He was held up a little with
Hutchinson, but overall we're very pleased. We need to introduce
the new engine management system for Cadwell. That's what we
need to make happen."
Nick Morgan, Team Owner
"Michael and the bike showed a huge improvement in that
second race. I think the fuelling and other little changes obviously
helped our overall progression over the two races. I was very
pleased with Stuart today. I think that this was Ratboy's best
ride so far this year. Hutchy definitely held him up a bit and
I'm adamant that Stuart would have been on the rostrum if he
could have got past him early on, but that's how it goes."
